Sweet Surrender
Bernadette is a Catholic writer and cochlear implant recipient whose stories explore loss, trust, and the quiet nudges toward surrender to God’s will.
She doesn’t usually stick cotton in her ear for funny photos, but nevertheless, it provides the unexpected element of humor. It was also really great for healing after the cochlear implant was inserted during surgery.

Removing Band Aids
Obstacles and crossroads of faith, loss, and surrender should be addressed with humor and humility as one listens for God’s still, small voice.
That being said, I can imagine God wincing a little bit when the band aid gets stuck on a tiny hair behind your ear, and taking it off rips the hair out by the root to which he responds, “Ooh, you good?” Meanwhile, your eye is tearing up the more you pull at it. So, you try to slow down to keep your composure because it’s just a band aid after all, but OUCH!!!
Then, the expectation is to move on with your life. However, this is when a picture resurfaces that you completely forgot about, five years later, and you’re wondering if God actually held you through taking off that band aid because Wooh! That was a doozy!
